![]() Maybe I should also tell the OP that if he has auto-lock activated ,the lower tailgate button only works if all the doors are unlocked,not just the drivers door! We get a few customers come in with same issue ,especially on E53 with auto-lock activated. |

When the lower tailgate release button didn't work on mine, it was because the computer didn't think that the upper tailgate was open. The button is disabled all the time that the upper tailgate is closed. I eventually traced it to a faulty upper tailgate lock/motor. The internal microswitch that registers the talgate as opened or closed didn't work. Do your trunk lights go on and off as you open/close the upper tailgate?

can u hear a motor working when u press that rubber piece...any sounds?..if not i would guess its the electrical or motor...if hear a click but it still not opening up i would guess it mechanism lever.
