Odd Transmission/Differential Noise
THIS HAS BEEN RESOLVED
It turned out that the noise was coming from the power steering components as my power steering fluid level was quite low (it only reached the very tip of the gauge), so I added about half a litre of Pentosin CHF11S to it and the noise went away instantly. I suppose I'm pretty stupid with this regard. Thank goodness it wasn't actually the differential, but I'll still be changing the oil out since I bought it and... well, at 90,000 miles, I might as well. Hi all, I recently replaced my front left axle because the CV boot had been torn for quite some time. That went well enough, but a noise that I thought would go away is still there and hasn't changed since the axle replacement. It is most prominent after starting the car for the first time in the morning and it sounds like an abnormal grumbling noise coming from the lower driver's side even while the car is in park. As I back up WHILE turning the wheel, however, the grumbling noise becomes quite loud to the point of it being a sort of whining noise. The noise is loudest at opposite lock and while the car isn't moving. As I speed up, the noise becomes higher and higher in frequency until it isn't discernible at speeds above 40MPH. However, as I continue driving, the noise becomes less and less noticeable overall until after a good 20 minute drive the odd noise isn't very noticeable at all. So I was wondering if anybody could give me a some ideas as to the problem of the source of the noise. I assume it's a function of the temperature of the components due to the lessening noise as the car's components heat up. Thank you very much! Last edited by pinksoviet; 10-27-2011 at 12:28 PM.
