I don't mean to hijack this thread so if you need more info on this just PM me.
It wasn't hard at all. You definitely need a couple long ratchet extensions to get to the bolts and a torque wrench to properly tension them back on. You definitely want to be careful tightening them properly or you risk stripping the aluminum block. I would recommend having an exacto knife on hand and a couple screwdriver pick/hooks. Half of my old gasket broke in its grooves and its was hard and stuck in place so I had to mess with it for a while, picking at it piece by piece until it all came off. Like I said its not really that hard, just time consuming removing the air filter housing, setting the power steering fluid reservoir aside, and other things. Do you have to get this done to your x? And my milage right now is at 271K and going. I hope I can go over the 300K marker without Max becoming rebellious.

Just hit the 56K mark.
Sorry for this garage shot but I just finished a complete detailing, brake upgrade, and general all around scrubbing, polishing, claying, waxing, interior detailing, etc. Weather on the east coast of USA has been sucky for the last 6 weeks, so the X5 joins the M5 to have a garage life until the salt man gets washed away. It is raining now so maybe a run tomorrow morning on a sales call. Meanwhile anyone north towards Philly, NYC, and Boston is going to get hit again. Thanks for keeping all the stuff up north.

Atlanta
I will be coming through there in a few weeks on the trip to FL. Nope, I am not stopping to detail anyone's X5.
![]() Most of the wonder of this paint is simple process: wash, dry, clay, polish out scratches and marks, Paint Glaze, Wax and More Wax. The rubber bits I use Griot's Long-Lasting Tire Dressing. I wash weekly all winter long. Any thing over 36 degrees and I am out there with warm soapy water and a hose. Then into the heated garage for a dry down and sauna of detailing. Working on my M5 now for the spring BMW concourse. Lots of hours. Lots of enjoyment in a finished product. Bottom line, clean car makes for a happy owner. I really think clean ones are more dependable, as you see everything as you touch and clean. So you get a heads up on issues long before there is a big surprise. Except electrical and frozen door handles... ![]() Speaking of lots... There are LOTS of cleaning and detailing products on the open market that work well. These products work for me.
