Every once in a while a new disk is released (once a year or so typically with the new disks). I believe the 2011 disk was released beginning of this year.

Back when Navteq was producing the disks they would come out with a new set roughly every 6 months (hence you will see older versions on eBay noted as 2006.1 and 2006.2 denoting the first and second release for that year). Now that Tele Atlas is doing these it looks like they may be more in an annual release cycle.
