IIRC, the TC Tensioner was re-designed and installed in the M62 engines during the last ~1.5 years of production.

My late production (8-'03) has well over 200k miles on the original guides.

Had Classic BMW visually inspect (flexi-probe digital bore scope) the TCGs that are accessible with the valve covers removed (~80%).
