brake pads & sensors

Hi guys,

It's time to change pads. Not sure about rotors. Any recomandation which brand I should chose. I'm tired of dusty wheels.

Thanks in advance!

I agree, OEM pads do dust like crazy, but they do the job of stopping. I'd go with OEM rotors or Brembo's. Pad wise Meyle has a good set for $108. Just be ready for a different feel when you apply the brakes. Not necessarily bad, just different.

I use these guys ALL the time. You won't get better service or shipping speed.

Another alternative for pads are Akebono's. I have them on my 740il and I never
see dust. You can find them on eBay or Akebono Brake Corporation should
point you in the right direction.

Cheers,

Hawk HPS pads. I am running them front and rear. Great wear, less dust than OEM and feel is great. Good price as well. Call Amber @ Essex Parts Services in TN. She is awesome to work with and great service.

Centric Posi Quiet Semi-Metallic pads on my 4.6is, way better than stock when it comes to low dust.

I switched to PBR deluxe ceramics. Very happy. About 95% of the stopping power of own with 50% the dust. Cheaper as well I paid 95$ for front set and oem was 150.

I went with Zimmerman coat z rotors. Great price great name great quality. No rust appears due to coat. Downfall is you must lightly brake for approx 100+ km before coating is worn off the face of rotor and then you can properly bed the brakes in. So this leaves room for error in that 100km before you can bed them in. But plan in advance and you should be fine. When I replace the rear I will go with brembo rotors and same pads. Good luck and search various vendors as the prices for same parts can vary and shipping can sure affect the price as the parts weigh in excess

Hawk, less dust (by maybe 25%) and maintain that pedal feel of OEM and linear
Akebono, virtually dustless but pedal feel is spongy (though maybe just bad compatibility with Brembo rotor).

I was happy with my Axxis Deluxe/PBR pads, on my E53 and several other vehicles.

I have used aftermarket rotors, but went back to OE. Better quality.

Akebono Ceramic Pads and PBR / Axxis Ceramic Pads are two of the most popular options for the X5. They produce a lot less dust than the stock pads. For rotors Brembo makes a high quality replacement rotor for the X5 that we have not had any complaints on.

We actually have RPS (Rotor Pad Sensor) kits available for the X5 HERE on our site. Makes getting new brakes easy as it's a one stop shop.

I put Akebono on last time and experienced the spongy pedal. The car stops fine but, it's just differeent I also used aftermarket oe rotors.

Next time I'm going with the OEM bought from a dealer or online OEM supplier
