Aftermarket Car alarm for my X5, suggestions?

Hi there

I'd like to upgrade my car alarm for my X5, has anyone does this? Any suggestions on which brands to check out?

I have no idea about alarms

THanks for the advice!

I've done a Viper 5901 into an e53 for someone who wanted the ability to remote start their vehicle. Its time consuming, but can be done.

IMO, there's nothing wrong with the factory security system. Is there a particular reason why you want to install an aftermarket alarm?

Well, a friend of mine had his Cayenne Turbo S stolen recently, and that also had a factory alarm. So i figured that thieves now have a way of getting around this somehow.

Or is the BMW's alarm superior ? :P I don't really need remote start, I just want something that'll demotivate a thief if he wants to break into the car.

Was the Cayenne ever recovered? To be honest, your friend could have the most feature packed alarm on this planet and still have his car stolen. There's a whole lot of details that have to be known to really determine if an alarm was even effective in this case.

The factory alarm is sufficient for most people. The only features I could see someone wanting from an aftermarket alarm would be remote start, 2 way paging alert, and GPS tracking in the event that the car is stolen. But, the 2 way feature is only effective to a degree. Line of sight, physical obstructions, terrain, weather, and interference can all reduce the signal strength to send and receive those notices. GPS tracking can be installed on any car with or without an alarm system. So aside from remote start, I cant think of another reason to add an alarm on top of the factory one. This is only my opinion. In the end, its really all up to what you want and what you feel is the best for your automobile.

Just remember, an alarm cant stop someone from pulling a car away on a tow truck....
