high-pitched metallic noise.....

I've had this odd, intermittent sound for over a year. It's a very high-pitched metallic squeaking noise that started when going over bumps, breaking hard, and spirited driving. Over the past week, the noise started coming on more frequently. Tonight, I noticed that the sound went away when I turned the A/C fan off. As soon as I started it, the sound started. It happens whenever the a/c fan is on, no matter if the snowflake button is on or not. Any ideas as to what it could be? Maybe the a/c fan bearing is drying up (if that makes sense)?
