Door mirror is loose

My left side (Passenger side) mirror doesn't "lock" into its open position. It's hard to describe but you know how there are 2 positions which it "snaps" into closed or open...... well it doesn't really do that and it freely swivels between those two positions.

I'm assuming that there is a bolt that it swivels on and that it just needs tightening. Am I correct and if so is there a way I can fix it without pulling the whole door trim off and pulling off the mirror?

Try pressing the button to fold and unfold, If won't help try to manually fold the mirror
And then press the button.

Update -

I was told when I bought the vehicle recently that both mirrors had been replaced with non electric folding mirrors so I assumed such. As it turns out only the drivers side mirror was.....

So obviously I tried what you said.. It does fix it somewhat but it is still loose when in the open position and can be moved easily and when I press the button it closes and then opens again (i.e. doesn't stay in the closed position).

Thanks for the link MrX5. I think the motor itself is working but either the gearing system or linkages are loose. I will crack it open tomorrow and find out

Update. I've opened up the mirror and the issue is within the motor housing itself. I will post pics and my fix soon

Hopefully, the fix doesn't require the JBweld like in the link. I have to fix my passenger side.
