Sunroof Closing Question

Just replaced the sunroof seal and I've had an issue with the lower/inside cover returning to it's original position. The sunroof itself seats with no problem but the inside cover only moves about 2 inches at a time. I have to constantly toggle the button to get the cover to finally close. I've tried the reset for the sunroof twice but it hasn't worked. Any advice out there? TIA.

Just bumping this thread. I'm still having this issue and can't seem to fix the problem. Is it possibly a warped cassette?

I don't know the answer but it might be simply an alignment problem.

What I mean is if you disturbed something, like removed the motor or panels, things might have to be re-assembled in a certain configuration relative to each other.

I can't say what exactly as I've never done it on the X.

On my old 2007 Ford Explorer, my sunroof got stuck in the tilt position. I removed the motor looking for the manual override socket (not knowing it was just under the label on the motor).

After re-assembly, my sunroof would not close automatically. I had to hit the close button then hit it again to make stop - otherwise it would automatically re-open like an elevator door knowing something is obstructing it. I also noticed that it didn't slide all the way back when opened fully.

To solve the problem ,I had to remove the motor and turn the gears to a certain position before re-installing it.

In your case, it could be a simple case of something was not completely aligned when re-assembled that's making the inner cover stop every 2 seconds. Like maybe try assembling things a little loose and test functionality. Once you confirm that all checks out and that the inner cover close completely by itself, then you can tighten things up.

Hopefully, someone who replaced the seal and experienced what you have too will know what exactly needs to be looked at.

Otherwise, again I don't know what or how involved it is to replace the seal, you may just have to spend some time to open it up and troubleshoot it.

Good luck!

Do you have pano roof? How hard was it to replace the seal?

Maybe clean the tracks for the cover. Something might be in there causing it to stop.

Twins, thanks for the info. I'll give it a shot.
