Strange problem with A/C

When the A/C is on and I vent it forward and up, the air is cold for both vents. This is normal. When I close the forward vent so that the A/C is only venting up it turns hot. Is this a malfunction? Has anybody else faced this issue?

Is the center dial all the way in the blue? I think the dial only controls the center vents - but if you refer to your manual you will know for sure. Im 95% sure that if you press the top vent button, it should blow air at the temperature you select it at. This would be your damper motor or arm. Press all three directions with the A/C on and the temp on 60 and see if you get cool from the floor and vents, but not the top. Then cut them off starting with the floor and vent and see what happens. You may hear the damper motor making an odd noise.
