nice writeup on how to take apart the mirror motor, i ordered a replacement motor because I broke my mounting bracket for the glass removing one side (damn cold weather) and I just need to replace the backing plate for the glass.

158 bucks for the replacement motor/backing plate assembly is better than 600 for a mirror assembly though.

Folding mirror problem is different issue. There's a micro switch inside the mirror housing that has popped off or broke. There's a different thread with the fix procedure.

OK, interesting write-up, and thanks for it, But I have a different issue. The mirror (glass) on my driver-side mirror has become unstuck from the bracket that attaches it to the motor. I tried using two different double-side sticking tapes and it doesn't hold for long (a couple of days every time), I assume because of the curved surface of the glass. Is there another way to attach the bracket to the glass? I do not want to use hot silicone, as it can damage the heating element on the back of the glass.

Any help will be appreciated.

FANTASTIC, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
Never knew what the problem was and now its fixed!

With respect to the author - on the part where you have to remove the 4 corner clips (tricky part), it looks in the photo as he preyed the rounded TOP part of the clip, what worked for me was pushing the flat bottom part away with a small screwdriver.

also removing the glass - you are pushing up the plastic frame not directly the glass. Plastic or wood wedge did not work for me - a large flat screwdriver, cardboard and a "wince" got mine released.
