2005 x5 4.8is engine whine all the time.

i have a engine noise coming from the drivers side engine compartment, high pitched whine all the time sounds like p/s fluid resivor is empty

Could be alternator whine. My car sounds supercharged as well. 4.8is 2006.

its probably the upper idler pulley. I have the same problem the bmw dealer diagnosed it for me.

Quieter at idle. Sounds like I am supercharged under acceleration.

I was thinking it could be some pulley as well, but it is really not on my list of priorities to address yet, so it will have to wait.

That is actually what I figured. Any remedies to the problem, or only to replace it?

I tried once to get one rebuilt but they could not do it. Just replace the damn thing
