DICE Mediabridge install question-probably been asked, but I can't find it....

2004 X5, no NAV, no CD changer, no DSP (although I DO have factory subs, but no DSP controls anywhere....). Business radio/CD with MID control.

Got a Mediabridge w/Bluetooth for Christmas. Installed it, and it recognizes my iPod, links up via Bluetooth and sees my music off my phone, steering wheel controls all work, display on the MID shows song titles in USB and Bluetooth modes, but I have no audio. During the install, I plugged in to the 6 pin and 3 pin connectors in the driver's side rear compartment with no issue. Talked to DICE today, and they had me check for an audio signal at the 6 pin connector coming out of the DICE module (the one that plugs in to the factory harness), and I've got signal there, which means that the DICE module is getting audio from the iPod and phone and sending it back to the 6 pin connector in their harness. The factory 6 pin connector only has 3 wires coming out of it (which is weird-there should be at least 4), and I traced those wires back up to the dash-they plug into my Business CD player.

What am I missing here? Based on all the pictures I've seen of installs on this, I've got the right connector going back up to the dash, but is it supposed to plug into the CD player?

It could be a defective MediaBridge. There's been a slew of defective DICE products (particulariy the DUO) on the board recently. Sounds like you've got everything connected properly, just make sure you have the MediaBridge volume up a bit (+4 should be fine). Also some people have a coax-looking cable (for those with analog DSP) in addition to the 3-pin connector, but I believe your X5 is too new (and also not equipped with DSP as you said). My advise to you: Unplug and replug everything, make sure your volume is up, and if it's not working ask for an exchange. Sorry for all the trouble you're having it's a really great unit when it works!!

No coax back there, and I've got signal from the DICE unit, so I'm not sure the problem is there. What seems to be happening is that the X5's audio system isn't recognizing the signal coming from the DICE unit. It knows that there's something hooked up to the CD changer input (because the only options I had before when I hit the "mode" button on the radio were the radio and the in-dash CD player, and now it shows me the DICE unit in the CD changer mode, along with the radio and in-dash CD player, which both continue to work fine), but it's not doing anything with the signal coming in. The 6-pin connector wires from the trunk area appear to plug into the back of the in-dash CD player....I've got 3 wires coming out of the 6-pin BMW plug in the trunk that are white with red, brown, and blue stripes, and a plug in the back of the in-dash CD player with the same 3 colored wires going in to it.

This one is frustrating....I talked to the guy at DICE 4 times yesterday, and he's saying that it's a problem with the vehicle if I've got signal at the end of their wiring, which I do.

Anyone heard of this before?

I'm not sure it will help but did you update the software on the MediaBridge? Can you adjust any of the settings on the MediaBridge?

Did a firmware update on the Mediabridge before I installed it. I can get at the menus and adjust everything....it just won't make any noise.

I'm wondering if it's something with the Business CD not being able to figure out what to do with the the DICE signal coming in. I'm 99% sure I've got signal all the way to the CD player....it's just not getting past there.

Are you trying USB or Aux? Try switching from one to the other and see if that helps. If you are using an iPod/iPhone, when you play the music does the song title show up?

Using an iPod, the song titles show up in USB mode, and when streaming via Bluetooth from my Blackberry, the song titles show up in BT mode.

That's part of the reason I'm so confused.

Here's another head scratcher....apparently my cell phone works in BT mode. People can hear me...I just can't hear them.

Definitely sounds like something is wrong with the MediaBridge. As you said, it seems like a sound processing issue. It's very unlikely it's a problem with the head unit, much more likely a problem with the DICE. Try to get DICE to send you another out to test it. Sorry I can't be of more help if you were local I'd lend you mine!

Should the CD player recognize an audio signal from (what's supposed to be) the CD changer and pass it through to the amp?
