Smile left front clunking over bumps......help.

Howdy all,

Need a little help, noticed a few days ago the drivers side suspension clunking over bumps. I have the tire off and checked the connections but how to determine what one is faulty remains a mystery. Im pretty handy and my father has a pretty good shop of a garage, but he would like me to figure things out for myself. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Josh

Could be one of several things but the very first thing to check is the sway bar end links. The ball joints tend to wear pretty fast. And DO NOT use cheap aftermarket replacement parts. Buy either OEM BMW parts or high quality aftermarket parts.

Yeah, same thing here, also a steering wheel play while passing the bumps.
The feeling is,if something right underneath of the pedals was hammering the floor.

front end clunks = always check the sway bar end links, I've replaced mine twice. You're most likely hearing the play in the heim joints, the rest of the front end is much more robust.

Before just replacing the sway bar links, check to ensure that the nuts are tight. You'll need an 18mm thin open ended wrench to hold the ball joint side of the link. I forget the nut size other side. They do fail often, but sometimes they just loosen up.

It's the thrust rod bushings.
