Removal of 3M headlight film
I applied the 3M protective film to my headlights shortly after buying my 2005 X5. I noticed recently that it had finally started to get a bit dull and less clear than it used to be. Considering that it has done its job for long enough, I removed the film today.
I was surprised at the amount of work I had to expend getting the residual adhesive off the headlights. It took about 90 minutes, half a bottle of Goo-Gone, a roll of paper towels, and a lot of elbow grease. In fact, I discovered that the best method was simply to liberally apply the adhesive remover and scrape with my fingernails.
In the end, I discovered the headlights are amazingly clear and perfect, all these years and many miles of highway driving later. I am glad I had the protective film on for all this time, but now I am happy to have it off to see the clear, beautiful headlights again!
