Front wipers stopped on 2001 X5

The front wipers on my 2001 X5 4.4 suddenly stopped working.

1. Rear wipers are fine. The water is also available.
2. Front windshield washer also stopped working
3. Front wiper motor is not running, therefore it is not a linkage problem
4. I checked fuses and both of them are fine.

Any ideas on what is the problem can be are highly appreciated.
I suspect a defective relay, or control module (if this car has one).
Where is the wiper relay located? Is there a separate wiper control module? where is it?

See http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/...wiper-fix.html

Also, if the linkage is binding then that will cause the motor to appear like it is not running.

I inspected the bolts and they appear tight and not interfere with the mechanism. I afraid it is wiper relay or something else. I cannot locate the place for the wiper relay. Where this relay can be found in the car? What other issue can be?

I located the wiper relay under the hood, took it out and cleaned the connectors. It fixed the issue.

This relay is located in the fuse box under the hood. I don't remember the color of it but it is the on the right side of the fuse box if to look at the car from front side.

The relays in these cars are something else. I fixed about 3 problems so far by pulling relays, and re-inserting them.

Cool, thanks. I pulled the air dam and found out the wiper assembly was wedged on a bolt head that backed out. Tightened her down and works great.
