Replace an Auto-dim outside mirror with non dim heated mirror 2001 X5
Have not seen anything definitive when searching here. Due to cost, want to replace it with only heated mirror. The auto dim glass looks double vision
Will it fail BIT? Plug and play? Last edited by RoyL; 01-14-2012 at 07:36 AM. |

Clarifying
I have a bad auto-dim outside drivers mirror. Day or nite it's double vision, gold stuff inside looks to have "melted" away in top half. Can I plug and play a new OEM heated only mirror without problems? Is there a electrical connector for the dim feature? |

You can switch from Auto-dim to standard mirrors without any side effects other than loosing your auto-dim feature. I have new Euro Blind Spot Mirrors for the X5 available HERE and our total mirror selection for the E53 can be viewed HERE.

Good to hear, I saw on one post that a code will be flagged, but not even certain if there's a connector for the auto-dim feature? I have tried to remove the miiror with gentle prying with plastic tools/wedges of various sizes, but haven't gotten too heavy on it, so can't answer this question until I see what's under there. |

Ok, the mirror finally popped out of the holders using a wooden paint stirrer to pry from the bottom.
There is 2 wires for the heater, and a connector for the auto-dim. See pics. Plugged in the heater wires on the new heated only mirror, stowed the loose connector inside the housing, and snapped it back on. No codes that were visible on the dash appeared. looks good, no issues. ![]() Question, on the original mirror, looks like the heater connectors have some sealing goo over them, do I need to do this to the new mirror to seal out dust, water? |

It's probably just some electrical contact promoter. I have never needed to put any thing on my mirrors when replacing them in the past.
