01 x5 rear door handle wont align
Hi Guys,
I have had my door handle carrier break before on the driver side. well the back driver side door broke. so i took it apart and it broke in the same place as before. well the problem is i cant get the handles aligned back kept on trying enough that the front of the handle where u screw it in is getting worn down. there is a gap on the bottom of the handle and the third part where they key fits (if it was a front driver side door) wont align up and i cant get it back together. steps i follow is put the handle carrier in the back of the skin, then get the screw in, put on the screw part of the handle, put on the bolt part then im stuck because it wont align up right. anyone have any ideas? i need to get the door back so i can use the car. pics attached. ![]() ![]() ![]() yes i searched, even saw my own post from the front door years ago Last edited by gnehzekul; 01-21-2012 at 09:44 PM. |

Try loosen the screw that holds the carrier a bit.
My mistake was to totally fasten this screw, the carrier needs a little bit of room to properly allign. Hope it is the same in your case ![]() Thanks for the pic PersonaNonGrata, i used yours (http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/...andle-fix.html)

That's correct.
I have to do so when I replaced first carrier and after forgot about a trick and got into the same bad alignment problem when was replacing a second one. Quote:

I used an bit holder extension and it gave me some play to be able to catch the thread and after it goes into place properly, but you have to align it a bit while tightening, when it's still loose.
