Maybe we're wrong and an added third row would be great for a mother-in-law. Can you imagine having her climb over the folded rear seats to get into the cargo area? Hit a bump too fast and she'd go through the roof.

Unless you have pano roof and ask her to keep her head forward. Could be a good Mother In Law ejection device.

Since the aftermarket seats are all rear-facing, you would enter through the rear hatch, exactly the same as we used to do with LTD Country Squire wagons, Torino wagons, Olds Vista Cruiser wagons, Buick Roadmaster wagons, full size Chev wagons, and so on. Even the Taurus wagon had a rear-facing seat available, as did Volvo wagons, and they weren't large vehicles.

We didn't used to think we were crazy. Riding back there was a treat reserved for well-behaved children.

Those were indeed great fun for kids but there was quite an abundance of room in those barges. "Well-behaved children"? The best fun was making faces at drivers following behind.

Well behaved meant you weren't in a punching match with your brother, since you were both out of reach of your parents. If you were fighting, then at least one child sat closer to the driver, IIRC.

The LTDs were big, but mid size wagons (and our Volvo 245) could all be had with extra seats.
