4.6 vanos transmission / timing vs the 4.4

Hello,

I've done the timing on the M62TU, but this particular X5 has the 4.6L v8 and it's vanos transmissions don't have the 3 pins like the 4.4 engines do, to verify that it's at full retard with an ohm meter?

Does anybody know how you are supposed to verify it's at full retard timing when timing these?
