Transmission issues..

Hey guys,

I was having issues with my transmission, coming to a stop, and when trying to take off, tranny not engaging then kicking and giving me TRANS FAIL SAFE eventually.

Almost everything is changed. Tranny rebuilt (again), new module, new cooler. Car drives much better but I am still having similar issues.

My mechanic says, the ABS module is next although it does not give me any lights on dashboard (mechanic says, when the car is being driven with the computer on, the speed data seems to disappear once in a while, which would cause this problem). I have not checked all the speed sensors yet either..

Please help, this is just becoming frigging puzzling..

Ozzie..

hmmmm i must admint it sounds like the transmission. i just had mine rebuilt buy a transmission specilist who even remanufactures torque converts, has trans dynos and all the bits....AND mine is not perfect...to the point im not happy how it shifts.
It may not have been rebuilt correctly?
Have you had all the modules checked for fault codes via DIS? or INPA?

Transmission is rebuilt (pretty much) and torque converter is replaced as well. Valve body was replaced with another rebuilt one.

Car drives much better with the similar issue though. From high speed (40+ mph) I come to a stop and when I step on the gas the car does not move until I step on the gas and it eventually kicks in to TRANS FAIL SAFE. I can actually avoid that by stepping on the gas a little until it picks up again and gets going.

Transmission guy says the speed data disappears intermittently which may cause this issue and it may be because of the ABS module. I have sent the unit for repair to see what happens..

Cheers,

Ozzie..

I think that your ABS has nothing to do with the slippage in a tranny. There should be a fault code.
Who knows to which point your VB and TC were rebuilt.
Once I received a letter from ZF representative saying that rebuilt doesn't necessary mean "fixed".
Slipping tranny is a slipping tranny, the worst thing is that they make you replace more unnecessary things instead of taking care of the main cause, which is BTW their obligation to do under the warranty. But nobody wants to remove the tranny endlessly?Especially if they don't get paid for it.

Thanks guys,

Well, the transmission was opened twice so far, and rebuilt twice (replaced all the seals twice, and the rest looked brand new, I actually took some photos). I used to believe there was something wrong internally, but not anymore.

I dont think there is slippage but some sort of electrical issue going on, I will keep you guys updated..

Cheers,

Ozzie..

Update :

After the ABS module was disconnected, car had no more 'TRANS FAIL SAFE' issues although normally I have all my ABS lights are on and no speedometer etc.

So, I sent the ABS module for repair and waiting to hear about it..

Cheers,

Ozzie..
