Rear wheel bearing replacement 4.8iS
Anyone took a stab at this? I did the front bearings and it helped a lot but I suspect one of my rears is bad also.

I am currently working on the rear left bearing on my X5, and you are correct the bolts are impossible to access, you have to remove the exhaust, the axle, and the bolts are like you said impossible to reach and the material is soft you need to be extremely careful to take them out. I will put mine together this weekend I take some pictures, but for the other side I will pay some one.

Hmmm, would it be easier to remove the wheel carrier? It seems like a huge effort to remove the exhaust and the the axle.
You would have to disconnect the wishbone and the guidelink but it seems easier than removing the exhaust and the axle.

I am getting ready to tackle my REAR wheel bearings using this procedure....
Everything looks the same. Any feedback? 1998 528i REAR Bearing the Easy Way! - Bimmerforums - The Ultimate BMW Forum We are driving a 5 series after all |

I thought you sold the 4.8is Tri? Unless you mean the 4.6is which I am assuming same procedure.
And you are totally right. No wayyyyy, it can be that easy. You think and engineer would make it like that? NOOOOOOO. Lucky it is not some fancy new socket or whatever that you need to purchase because your E-torx, torx, hex, whatever now doesn't fit this new bolt design lol. I look forward to see the writeup!
