4.8is, so you probably have navi like me. In that case, hit menu, then go to telephone, follow instructions. It was a fairly simple thing to do. Well, after finding my well hidden pass code.

But my read from the manual is that the R/T button simply changes the buttons on the wheel to phone control vs radio control. It is not the pairing button. Even the voice button on the wheel will not pair the phone. It simply engages (short press) vs disengages voice control. After pairing, it is also a redial button. I have to use the button in the center console to initiate a pair.

We have a 2005 3.0 with Nav, but no pairing button. Per the manual, the bluetooth goes into pairing mode for 2 minutes after the car is turned on. I'm not sure if that means power only or fully on, but I always start the motor, and it doesn't always seem to pair on the first try.
FWIW, my wife has been through 4 or 5 phones is the past 6.5 years with the X5. One phone, Moto Droid X2 was terrible, and after emails and phone calls to Moto support they finally said the car was incompatible with the phone. Total BS. That particular phone has a very poor implementation of Bluetooth. I got her a Moto Droid Bionic and it works great with the X5. Another 2005 X5 owner who I met on Moto support forum reported exact same problem with Droid X2, and he upgraded to Droid RAZR and emailed me that phone works great with his X5. |

Well that's kinda cool. My button came as a part of the phone snap in cradle with the ULF kit. I wonder if it would have allowed a different phone to pair during the first two mins like the other guys? Oh well. The snap in cradle is kinda cool if you have a supported phone. It will charge the phone and amplify the cell signal.
BMW does not offer a cradle for my phone, but it works great with BT! I use it every day. One of the best mods I have done!

I was successful in pairing my iPHone to my 05 4.4 with NAV. I had some trouble at first, but like E53inLA said that it only 'pairs' for the first 2 mins.
I'm trying to do this from memory so it my not be exact... Make sure to have the pass code which should be with the paperwork Shut off your x5 Start your x5 go through the menu to telephone through the NAV screen. follow any instructions Your phone should see the "BWM..." bluetooth. Choose pair on your phone and enter the pass code. It will then upload your contacts to the x5. whenever you make or receive calls while the x5 is running then bluetooth should pair with your phone. on the iPHone I can choose the bluetooth or just use the phone. it is a pretty sweet feature.
