4.6is 4.4i engine swap

My 02 x5 4.6is engine went bad on me and was hoping I could swap it out with an 02 4.4i engine I have laying around. The basic engine blocks are the same and should bolt right up the the 4.6 trans I think. Will this work if you change the computer with it?

Which computer would you change? The engine computer? The transmission computer? The gauge cluster? Lots of modules that talk to each other on that bus.

I was just planning on changing the engine computer. Would I have to change the others too?

This looks a huge project; you need to refer to a very expert man before doing such change.
If I were you; I'll just look around for a 4.4 (e.g. as an exchange of your 4.6), but I'll never think in replacing different size engines.

It seems like it would be less work to sell what you have and purchase the correct engine, although it initially seems like a big pain in the butt. If you start what you are thinking, you might regret it after you get 1/4 of the way in there and realize it would've been easier to get the right engine.

I've made that mistake and hope my experience prevents you from doing the same.
