motor david i did that search and came up with a lot of crap and was hard to sort through so I thought why not ask myself. I'm so sorry to waste the precious space on the forum with a totally selfish ridiculous question.

To everyone else thank you very much for all your advice and opinions.

Andrew

For grade, API SM or SN

For viscosity, 5W-30. I like narrower ranges because they are more stable, other things being equal. Never use a wider range than you need, and with your climate 5W-30 is plenty

For brand, I use BMW oils because of the specific additive package. I have used Castrol in my BMWs and would have no issue with using Mobil 1

For filter, only OE from the dealer. Greatly reduces the risk of counterfeit parts, and even if it is a Mahle or other oem filter that doesn't mean it is built to the same spec in terms of micron rating and capacity

Bulk,
I hail from the same village in the same carriage. Make life easy and buy Castrol Edge, 5W-30 Titanium. Its new down under with the proper spec for our engines. They have it on special at Supercheap Auto from time to time making it great value.

any full synthetic oil will do just fine... i recently stoped being paranoid, and i put whatever i find (Motul, Castrol, Mobile... 5-30, 10-40...) just don't but olive oil, and you're fine...
