Windshield wipers stopped working

Wife said she wlas driving down the freeway with the wipers in auto mode and they just stopped working. She tried changing the speed, but they still wouldn't engage so she pulled over, turned the car off and then back on and they started to work again. About 30 minutes later they stopped again and she had to repeat the process.

I did some searching on the forum and found a post about bolts on the motor backing out, but that person's symptoms were different. the wipers were stopping part way up the windshield which makes sense. This doesn't explain my wife's issue. I found other posts with the same symptoms as my wife had, but no resolution.

Has anyone else had this and what was the fix? I'm still going to go take a quick look at the bolts on the motor, but I'm just guessing that's not the problem.
