4.4i suppose to sound sporty?

My 4.4i has a sport sound to the engine
not at idle, but anywhere Above 2k RPM.
My friends 3.0 X5 is super quiet and my
Sisters 03 745i which I believe has the same
Engine is pretty quiet too.
Just wanna make sure this is normal
Cause I'm suspecting its an exhaust
Manifold leak which by the looks of it
Seems pretty hard to replace

I thought mine had an aftermarket exhaust when I bought it, but it's stock. It sounds great! Just ask my wife about the silly grin I get whenever I get on the throttle!

OP, I'm pretty sure if you have a 'leak' you might throw a code....my 4.4 grumbles on ignition and really not until i step on it.

It's not like an American v8 where you get rumble down low at idle (<- old man's vette)

The sound I get is mostly up front and it sounds good. I get a faint rumbling sound / sporty sound from the rear that I like also.

It's still very quiet, though, so you might want to take a peek under there and see if you have an exhaust leak.
