Just cross the other site, and Turkeybaster115 and SOCOM dis a good job, and proved the Mercon SP is indeed the Shell M-1375.4

Lifeguard6 = Mercon SP? - Page 2 - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum - E90Post.com

From SOCOM:
"Hey, I have a present for you. Here is the MSDS for Shell M-1375.4 (aka Shell ATF SP Fluid).

Go here: http://hazard.com/msds/mf/equilon/shell
Search for ATF M-1375.4 and you'll see the product code is 53174 or MSDS #401519E

Go here:http://www.equivashellmsds.com/
Search product code 53174 or MSDS code 401519E and voila Mercon SP

Enjoy."

I got 5 quarts Mercon SP from Ford dealer the other day, it is red! Per Ford's MSDS (updated 8/2011), it should be brown color, any clues?

Well, despite all the sleuthing and comparing kinematic viscosities and flash points and deciding that those indicated that the two fluids are the same, perhaps they are not. Ford only used the ZF transmission for a few years as i understand it, had a specific fluid mixed up for it, stopped using the transmission and then told owners to use a more generic fluid in future. So what that fluid is these days could be the subject of much speculation.

Received this email response from ZF NA recently. I was planning on a drop & drain at 78K but I wanted to hear what ZF had to say first regarding this since BMW's standard line is it's a Lifetime Fluid

We stand by BMW’s recommendation of lifetime oil fill on the 5HP24 transmission. However to assure proper operation we advise to perform a drain and fill at 100,000 kilometers or after 8 years. We do offer oil and filters through our distributors. The only approved oil for your ZF 5HP-24 transmission is “Lifeguard Fluid 5” and the oil quantity required for a completely dry transmission is about 10liters.

I am not surprised by any of these statements. Just corporate BS to cover their ass and not step on BMW toes.
