replacing cluster

hey guys so as you kno there are alot of problems with the cluster pixel display so i went to a yard and bought one my question is when i swap it our will it work nomal some people are saying i will get a error?

you will get a mileage tamper error unless you get it recoded at the dealer (who will typically not recode a cluster not purchased from them)

completely false information provided by UCrewX5. if anyone needs a used instrument cluster wiped out to read zero, and to over write the vin and sia data to a blank state, you may contact me. only then can you encode the instrument cluster to the vehicle sucessfully.

completely false? A bit strong of a statement, don't you think? So you are saying that putting the cluster directly into the vehicle will not result in a odometer tamper warning? That, my friend, is completely false.

Obviously you either have the tools that the dealer uses or have access to them. Good for you. 99.99% of the people out there won't have that and will have to rely on the dealer for instrument cluster coding. Nice of you to offer to help.

if you do some research you will find that in no way a dealer can re-code sucessfully a used cluster. dealers have no problem telling someone they can re-code a used cluster. they will take your money in a heartbeat. the mileage, vin and sia data will not change, but the coding data will.

so what part of "you will get a mileage tamper error unless you get it recoded at the dealer" is completely false? everything is because you did not state your going to have the manipulation dot on if you dont have it match the mileage on the lamp module which can only be done with hacker tools.

That said, there are some services that advertise on Ebay that claim they can repair the cluster, for example

This is one way to go if you are trying to repair the pixels in your existing cluster, but I do not believe this service can code a cluster for you that did not originally come from your vehicle.
