Low Mileage 4.8is Value

UPDATED: For sale ad listed here https://xoutpost.com/classifieds/bmw...ml#post1103268

Xoutpost!

Long time reader, first time poster. Story short, we bought my wife her current Imola 2005 4.8is 3 years ago but are looking for something with a tow hitch to be able to tow my track car to events (now that it is a dedicated car). I am curious as to the value as there are not many that come available with only 60,000 miles and wanted to get a sense of all of your opinions prior to listing.

It is in very good shape, exterior and interior in 8.5 or 9/10. ZERO accident history and well maintained. Any input would be helpful and I sincerely appreciate it!

EDIT - UPDATE: Purchased a replacement vehicle with towing duties in mind, so the 4.8is will be hitting the market once I have time to get her detailed! Will post a link to the for sale ads for any interested folks once it is up and I sincerely appreciate this groups input! It has helped tremendously,

I will get more pictures soon, but one attached. Recent work includes FCAB's, Front Axles Rebuilt, Front Sway bar bushings, front rotors, and oil change. Owned the truck from 30k to 60k miles, but no issues so far and has been extremely reliable.

Throw a hitch on it and enjoy. They tow very nicely in my opinion.

This may sound silly, but I feel like the transmissions would need rebuilds every other year. I know internet research can boarder on "fear mongering", but the transmissions in X5 V8's are not know for being a strong point. Right?

This is a REAL option if I could get over my fear of tranny rebuilds, and lack of an OEM hitch option....

Bought a Curt hitch and a few OEM parts for integration but never got brave enough to have it installed....

It's not going to be easy to put a value on it since market on these is all over the place. From my own experience I missed out 2005 4.8is with new transmission and all service records from new 89k miles that seller was selling for $10k just 8 months ago. So I ended up getting 2002 4.6is with 75k miles and two owners with extensive dealer service records for $7500 this past July. You best bet is putting it up on eBay and let market decide. Or list it here where people know what it takes to keep these on the road and can appreciate a taken care of example.

Pic fixed.

The 4.8iS is more than capable to tow your track car. Why not buying an OEM tow hitch to put on it?
I've just sold a complete tow pkg for $550 shipped.

I think all transmissions these days have a poor rep.. I primarily stay on top of keeping the transmission serviced. My customer hauls his 24" boat with his and not just on flat land. We just service the trans every 2 years and all has been good. With the low milage on yours I would think you have a leg up.

If you really want to sell it, post it up for high teens. if it sells, great. if not, keep it, put a OEM tow hitch on it, and drive it!!! sounds silly to me to get rid of a perfectly good vehicle because you don't want to damage the transmission. i don't think you will be towing every day.

its really hard to find those low mileage examples. kbb is not very accurate on pricing these vehicles.

i don't know what else i would get if it wasn't for an E53.

Good to see this post. Possibly pulling the trigger on a Le Mans blue 2004 4.8is in 2-3 weeks. It's located in South Caralina and I'm in Chicago. It has 81k miles and is advertised for $15k was willing to pay $14k if it checks out with a used car inspection at a BMW dealership near the place selling it (tomorrow actually). I plan on towing my baja islander 232 boat with it (has the tow package already installed). I'm willing to pay up a little more for it due to the fact I wanted the Le Mans and it has the alcantera/leather interior option that I love. I'd say keep it and install the tow paxkage. If you decide to sell good luck with it, shouldn't last long with the low Milage on it!
