JCL, I have the fluid, washers and drain/fill bolts, all ready to do the change, but no I have not done it for the same fear of actually damaging something that is supposed to be lifetime. And fear of shocking that actuator into breaking. I might have shot myself in the foot by not doing it though.

I also didn't do it because I was having random strange connectivity issues with the GT1 and couldn't figure out why it was disconnecting randomly. So I did whatever I was absolutely necessary.

Now if I can get my hands on a GT1 again, I will do the fluid change and reset. I am pretty sure I am going to need the GT1 when I buy a new actuator just because I hear it needs to be coded to the car.

And no the GT1 was not mine, it was TwinsPoppa's.

Car is on ramps as of last night. Took a look at the actuator, seems easy enough to remove. Hopefully today I will have that gear flipped.

Well I took that actuator off.

Didn't take pics cause I forgot my phone upstairs, and was under the car when I realized. I will probably take pics of it next time it fails. I don't feel this fix will last.

Took off the motor from the housing.
4 - E10 bolts.
1 - E6 from what looks like a sensor of some sort.
1 clip for connector.

Took off motor, looked through the hole where the screw gear comes through, and yup, you can clearly see the plastic gear is owned. Shaved fully off. I had it marked on the outside, so flipped the gear 180, put warm gear back in a few times to set the 180 degrees exactly from when I took it apart. The gear moves a bit as the worm gear goes in.

JCL. Yes the shaft will have play in it. But this is normal, it has a bearing on the end. This bearing stabilizes it once you screw the cover back on place. I sort of centered it in the vice, and it spins just like a motor should. Also the brushes looked great with lots of meat on them still.

Yea so put it back in place, and no more errors. Took it for a quick spin, all good so far.

I guess only time will tell if this will fail again. Fingers crossed. For now I will hunt for a replacement.

Update. I noticed something strange.

My car always had that alternator whine type of sound. When the actuator failed, the sound disappeared.

Now the sound is back. I also noticed that the 2k rpm drone is back. WTF. Does this mean its the transfer case making the noise?

What does this mean?

I dunno. Going to have my mech take a look. I should probably check the oil though. I'll change it once I have the GT1. I guess reset adaptations at same time.

Quick update to this thread. I am still driving on my flipped actuator gear.

The whining sound has gone away, not sure when.

The drone sound is the dent in my resonator exhaust. It doesn't bother me too much right now, but still something that I will fix later.

At one point I even ordered a replacement gear, but good luck finding it now if I do need it. Hate when that happens.

Check the passenger seat, is anyone riding shot gun??

Ask the wife, when I buy something and can't find it, I normally describe it to my wife and ask her if she seen it.
