X5 4.6is Airbag Light

Hi every body,
Just bought myself an X5 and it's great but, the light for the air bag system has come on. I contacted the garage and they informed me the light came on when they vacuumed out the car.
The garage has diagnosed that there is a fault in the battery igniter circuit 1 which is open circuit. He believes it could be the main air bag ECU but he can't locate it!
Would any body happen to know where the main ECU is located for the air bags on the X5.
Iv'e been advised it could be part no 65.77-6962530. If that helps at all.
Or could it be the occupancy sensor playing up on the passenger seat ?.
Thanks any advise or views would be most welcome.

It could be possible that there is a corrosion issue at the connection in your door jamb. It probably won't reset on your own, so you'll need someone with a device to reset it.

Unless you have access to a device, this might be best left to the dealer.

That part is going to cost you $400...dealer might charge a 1/4 of that to find out it's not that part.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
The X5's gone back into the garage for further diagnostics I'm hoping the faults an easy one to find as they have spent three hours so far.

The garage has possibly tracked it down to the battery SRS Piro fuse playing up as it looks as though the previous owner has had the cable repaired. After fiddling with the loom the light has gone out.
Two suggestions have been mentioned 1st replace the loom or 2nd it could be the main air bag ECU.

If they can't find the ecu, I wouldn't trust them. The info is out there, easy to find, they need to have the service info available to them.

The air bag control module is under the center console.

But the disconnect at the battery is more likely the issue.

airbag light on means the fault codes stored in the ECU,
you can get a code scanner to read and clear the fault codes.

Do you know if an ECU has to be programmed to a specific vehicle type ie BMW 5 series? The garage found the ECU and changed for a replacement that I got off the internet but that had 10 fault codes that wouldn't clear.
The garage cleared the fault codes on the origanal ECU but one returned and wouldn't be cleared.
The light came back on as soon as my wife turned the key so I'm back to square one and £3oo pounds lighter.
