Steering Wheel Clunking noise getting worst.

A while back ago my 05 X5 steering wheel made clicking noise when turning it either side, but now I can hear clunking noise from the outside when turning it before hitting the max. Have anyone experience this? I brough it in to the dealer before the clunking noise happen but they said it was normal.

This is a common problem on the X5s and is definately not normal.
You`ll really notice it when backing the car after it has been standing.
Ball bearings and struts front left and right need to be replaced.
Mine was done last week. Dealer will have a fix for this (been discussed on this forum loads). If you do have adaptive headlights, please do make sure (turn front wheels hard to right) and check the inside front wheel well, there is a small rectangular black plug which needs to be reconnected properly after mechanics but the wheels back on, otherwise your dims will be doing the dance in the evenings up down the whole time (pretty darn annoying for fellow motorists as well as yourself)

Cheers,

Cheers,

I have this same problem... Just when I am about to back out, I hear this loud clunk noise, and sometimes hear it when I make a slow left turn or when I am about to launch the car from a standstill.... I had the left wheel bearing replaced a few months ago... seems like the right has gone bad.

Thanks. What should I tell the dealer to get this problem fix? I brough it to the dealer before and they said it is ok for the clicking noise fromt the steering wheel.

I got the same damn problem but the dealer will not fix it and said they dont know what it is and have to wait for the noise to get worse. Except mine only does it when turning in reverse and going into a corner hard. Keep me updated please.

I get this noise and the dealer told me front end is not covered under last 2yrs of CPO. On my last visit in they noticed that both my CV boots were torn and replaced them. I still get this noise and I am a bit concerned where its coming from. its happens mostly when turning hard right.
