Spark Plug #4 full of oil (right bank)2002 X5 4.4i 101,000 miles

I'm in the process of removing the old spark plugs, the #4 plug on the right bank (passenger side) was drenched with motor oil when removed, see pics below.
Does anyone know what would cause this.

I appreciate all your assistance in advance.

Thank you. Mike

Thanks for the info. I never imagined a bad valve cover gasket would have such an impact on the plugs. Removing the valve covers is going to be a real challenge.

Does the power pack wiring harness box need to be removed in order to remove the valve cover?

I'm slated to do this on my 4.6is this spring/summer, I think you also need to buy the rubber grommets that the valve cover bolts go through on top of the valve cover.

I concur the valve cover gaskets are shot. And yes, the electrical boxes do have to come off, but I found a new way to take them off. Instead of removing each clip and curing your way through it. You can just grab the box on each end and with a switch tug, pull up to release the box.

I have a DIY that can be found here

But mine goes through a Valley Pan gasket repair, so you don't need the rest of it. I also found on the search bar this link here.

This video on you tube shows how to just pull the wiring boxes off quickly without removing the retaining clips .

Thank you all for the great information. I'll post pics of the gasket change process.
