I'm new to xoutpost. I own a 2001 e38 and bought a 03 e54 this week.
I've been through all the major players in the Independent BMW repair guys in San Diego. I was going to buy an Acura MDX before I found him. He restored my belief in BMW's as I hated the repair costs. He will even come out and look at your car if you are broken down.
I settled on Jim's Williams BMW repair in Pacific Beach. He is honest competent and reasonable.

Good luck, I love this site and am learning a lot about X5s and I'm sure I'll have lots of questions in the future

You do realize the designer of the MDX was told by Honda to take a BMW X5 and redesign it with at least 1 mpg better mileage. But I did have to replace my nav with something much better. Still don't know why they don't have a deal with Alpine, Blaupunkt, or Pioneer.

The prior owner of my '03 X5 got an '10 MDX for his wife when I got his 7 yr old X. Spoke with him last month, he wishes he never got rid of the X. She wanted the MDX because of it's styling, they both can't stand driving it now. He told me he had fewer issues with the twice the age X as he now has with the MDX, they also now refer to operating the MDX as "steering", where as the X was "driven". Totally different experience!

If you check one of my earlier threads. you'll notice this guy messed up a bit the first time he worked on my X. I went back to give him another chance, and he went over the top to make things right for me. He gave me aprox. 20 hours of free labor. He does very good work, and is very knowledgeable about any german vehicles.
