Wheel Speed Sensor problem?
Hey guys,
Yes, its me again, still trying to solve my transmission issues. (If you didnt know, my tranny is rebuilt and tested (twice) and still having issues when the car comes to a stop and when I step on the gas, no movement and TRANS FAIL SAFE eventually with a kick.) After almost everything changed, my mechanic is thinking there is something wrong with the ABS module. I got it rebuilt which did not solve the tranny issues. I finally bought my INPA software/cable and started to test the speed sensors, since I had read some time ago, my system may get a wrong speed signal which would mess up the tranny calculations. I can drive the car manually without any problems which led me to the same conclusion. Well, INPA shows wheel speed for each as 16 (rpm) when the car is not moving, which quickly made me think, that must be the problem. When I deactivate one of the front speed sensors, numbers goto 0 on the screen, which is what its supposed to be IMO. What do you guys think, any experiences, thoughts? Cheers, Ozzie.. |

Also, my car is 2001 X5 4.4. There are no speed sensor errors in ABS module, but 49 and 59 stall speed and gear errors in transmission module.

More info : Yesterday I got this error :
52 Gear Check 2 Throttle-Angle : 27.06% Mean Value - Rear Wheels : 144.00 rpm Output Speed : 448.00 rpm Once again, the transmission was rebuilt and checked, and I am suspecting ABS module or speed sensors. Anybody? Ozzie.. |

There is no one coming up with suggestions. I say change one speed sensor, and check with INPA. See if that fixes anything or even if that rpm goes to zero.

Update : Replaced all the speed sensors and got the same error..

Damn that sucks. Hope someone here has any suggetstions. Can you take to dealer to diagnose?

i am fighting with a similar problem on my 2004 E53. whislt i have a heap of fault codes, I'm hoping most are stemming from LHF wheel sensor which is not visibly damaged and measures the same resistance as the right front one. I did find code 5EAC which is DSC sensor rotation rate. I found the bearing is a bit notchy so I'll change that and see if it makes a difference

Try to check the worm gear on the speed sensor.

There is some sort of a 'voltage interruption' error on the transmission module (I dont remember exactly since my mechanic did the check with autologix?) which makes me think that the problem is certainly electrical.
The battery is new and the alternator checks ok. What do you guys think would be the culprit? (I have replaced my transmission module briefly with another used one which didnt fix the issue).. Meanwhile I am also experiencing delayed engagement (from P to D especially, not very frequently though) which I blamed the valve body first, but that also was replaced with a rebuilt one and when I test the solenoids they seems to engage fine.. I have been reading rear subframe bushings may cause some of the transmission issues (some sort of disengagement of tranny when hitting a bump?), I know mine are very old and need replacement. I will take care of it when I have the funds.. Hey, I still like my X5, drives the best (when no problems, of course).. Cheers, Ozzie.. |

what gear??
the speed sensors are built into the bearing & hub. in the back of the wheel bearings are a row of metal lugs that the sensors detects as the wheel turns. that info is used to determine both road speed and wheel slip, and its that info that "drives" everthing via the various computers |
