Exclamation Replacing MAF Sensor

Hey guys, need to see if anyone can help me out with my little issue.

I took my X5 to the dealership and they diagnosed that my "Service Engine Soon" light was because of my Mass Airflow Sensor. Well, it's out of warranty already so I decided to order the part through ebay. part came, was exact fit and everything, but SES light is still going off. Now, I have the RC / FCX3 code reader and it'll reset the light, but the light will still go off later on in the day.

Now, my question is: Is my light still going off because this wasn't an OEM BMW part?

When I use the code reader, it's telling me it's the same thing, the MAF Sensor. Should I just shell out the bucks to purchse an OEM part?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, this along with camshaft sensors, and other vital electronics should be left to OEM. Also check the intake boot for cracks.

Check your CCV and related hoses as those were throwing codes that also said the MAF was bad on my 3.0.

Good Luck!!

I had trouble with an ebay MAF sensor. Buyer beware on those. Mine looked like someone had opened it and tried to refurbish it. It did not work.

I ordered a new Bosch MAF after that and it's worked fine for a couple years now.

A friend had a similar experience with an eBay maf sensor on a 5 series, he went with oem and all troubles went away... As Slick said, this is one part you should go OEM. Good luck..

Great advice guys, thanks so much for the help!

Now, question is:

Where can I get a good MAF Sensor without shelling out some major bucks?
Anyone have any good sites?

Ecstuning.com. There a lot more. Make sure you buy OE BMW, not OEM.

I only see 3 listed.

Original BMW ($357.22),
MTC ($134.87 Backordered), and
VDO ($224.99)

I am in the hunt for a new MAF also...the real deal is the one you want, imo:

BMW E53 X5 M54 3.0L > Search > MAF > ES#34431 Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) - 13627567451

aka #1 in your list above.
