Playing around with Dr Colorchip on the X5

I've tried this a couple of times before and my results completely and utterly sucked.

OP: can you be a bit more specific on the process you used? The instructions I followed did not work at all on my Imola red M3 or X5. Paint just came right off when I used the buffing fluid stuff. I'm not good at this detail type work, so I was super frustrated when it didn't work as advertised.

I dunno what to tell ya then. Are your expectations too high? As I said in my post, the results I got for the price paid and time spent are quite satisfactory. I've sinced used the product 4 more times; 3 on wife's Chrysler (working in smaller sections), plus a redo on the X5 for some I missed first time around.

Inspecting from 12" distance, yeah, of course you can pick out some of the chip work, although not likely anyone else would typically notice. From maybe 3' away, normal standing there and looking, only the more aggregious damage is visible. The color match is excellent, and no blobs. I think several other members have weighed in with similar experiences. So Like I said - cost/benefit is a consideration; $50 wouldn't be expected to compete with a paint booth for results. But I've tried the traditional method of touch up and was never good enough to not have a bunch of blobs.


Plus this let's me smear across a large area vs one-by-one.

Since round one, I've changed to using a little artist type brush from Wally world and using bare finger to swipe across the wet paint application. Removal fluid blends the paint and removes from the clear coat around he chip.

I'm not bashing Dr. Colorchip, rather my inability to keep it on the X5. Everytime I use the removal fluid it removes everything I put on the X5 and I'm staring at a chip again w/no paint in it. Obviously I'm doing something wrong, but I just can't figure it out.

What are you using to apply the removal fluid? Microfiber? Old t-shirt? I've tried a bunch of different things with similar results. I'm just trying to learn what works since your technique ended with excellent results to my eyes.
