Rain and hail and my radio

Had my sunroof open the other day during a brief, but intense thunder/hail storm. It didn't seem bad inside my car, but I'm having issues with the radio. The first night the radio turned itself on at some point. The display will only light up if I squeeze the back of the radio just right. So I figured I just needed new one, but then: I started up my X5 and drove a half mile or so listening to the radio until it turned itself off. But the unit (the controller)was sitting on my desk!
Will replacing the unit (what I refer to as the radio) take care of my problem or do I have other more serious issues?
Steve
