Smile Error Code help

Hi all,
I have my ses light comming on I have a 2000 x5 (4.4 of course) and went to Autozone and they did the check (its free and fast). The code is PO343 Camshaft position sensor A bank 1. Circut high input.

First question is what is sensor A bank 1 drivers side or passenger side?

second is the light keeps going on and off could it be something else causing the high input?

Is there any post on how this is done or a picture?

Thanks for all your help
GE

This DIY was for the 3.0 I-6 engine, but there are likely some similarities for the 4.4 V-8 - http://www.xoutpost.com/showarticle-260.html

Yes, you should be able to see it next to the oil dipstick at the top. Its held in with a 5mm allen head bolt.

I believe so...its rare for it to be a wiring or DME issue.

yes try it yourself it was not that bad on my3.0 just take your time with those plastic plugs, not to break them. after years of getting hot and cold they are brittle.

The cam sensor on the 4.4 has a pig tail with the connection under the beauty cover...a lot easier to disconnect than the 3.0.
