Radio and 4x4 quit cut out together

sounds like a classic bad alternator, unlock the instrument cluster and monitor test #9 for live voltage readings, when the alternator voltage regulator is faulty, it overvoltages on N62 engines. allowing the engine, radio, and lights to cut out when it reaches 18v.

I'm in West Africa and the local mechanics I have are good guys but when it comes to this electronic and electric stuff they are helpless.

I have the same problem with my 2006 4.8, I had change the complete alternator and the problem continues, will try to strip the ignition switch and clean the contacts hope the problem quits

Hi Killcrap, how do I unlock the instrument cluster and monitor test #9 for live voltage readings.

When I try the test #9 it shows LOCK.

Hi Guys...once again thanks so much for ur help...

I unlocked the instrument cluster and monitored test #9 for live voltage readings.

On Initial Test it showed - 12V-11.9V
With CD player Overhead door lights - 11.9V
Added Airconditioning - 11.8V
Added full headlamps & Hazard lights - 11.4

Then settled down at 11.6V - 11.7V

When I turned all the above off it came back up to 11.9V - 12V

I hope this helps

Just in case I need a new Alternator eventually what Amp and model should I source for VIN 5UXFB535X4LV04941.

where ytou could buy alternator or regulator: check out this part sellers:

Now go to realoem.com and find the alternator part number. Then use that part number and search web. I suggest you buy an OE one. Not rebuilt, if you want it to last.
