headlight turn off and right back on

When driving my headlight will occasionally both turn off then right back on. They seem to change a shade of color before they go out. It seems to only happen every month or so. And both light not just one go out. Does anyone know what may be causing this? Thanks in advance.

Could be the xenon bulbs, ballasts or the LKM. You could take it to the dealer or indy and see if the LKM has any fault codes or you could start by replacing both bulbs and see if the problem goes away. Next would be the ballasts. (The order is dictated by the cost.) It is odd both would go faulty at once.
If those two sets of items do not cure it then you'll need the dealer or somebody with a GT1 or equivalent.
I would also have the charging system/battery checked at an Autozone or the like just in case. They usually do not charge for the check.

Since both are going off at the same time, it's either the LKM or the switch. Not sure if there are relays for the lights, but I would research that and start there. Relays are the bane of BMW electrical systems.

Yeah I agree, both seeming to die at the same time is odd. I taught it was the LCM at first, but the Bentley says that the LCM is designed to allow the Low-Beams to work, when the LCM fails. You might be right about the switch. Is there anyway to test the switch?

I'm not an electrical person really, so I can't help past the basics, and after that I get my trends involved. Best bet is to try and borrow someone else's to test out. I say first check if there is a relay for the lights. Test that, or replace it with a known good one. I have had 3 random relay failures thus far.

As far as I can see the "relay" is the LKM.

do you have "Auto Lights"? they can cause all sorts of problems.

The battery was replaced about 2 months ago. I do have the auto lights. Now that it think about it, I always run with the headlight switch in "auto light" mode. Could this be caused by a auto light sensor. I would think my parkig lights would turn off also if this was caused by the auto lights. What is the LKM? I know the LCM "Lighting Control Module"

I think LKM is the switch.
