OK guys I answered Michelle's Q, can I have yout attention to my 2 threads Q's? so we don't turn this one into another blockbuster thread :p
That's exactly what happens, you need another door open or something if you are going to close your driver's door.

Too Late!

This is my 1st experience with a 'Michelle thread'. Amazing!

Mine does the same. It makes me take the key with me and use the key unlock for the rear hatch. I don't know about all this switch and electrical stuff suggested by many here. I thought it was a safety feature.

The part will come unpainted from the stealer...$110...it is two screws to get the piece off then it pops out...when you remove it you will notice all of the water that is trapped in there shorting it out...undo the connector...clean it out with some coke(soda)...then plug in the new one...viola...that was my last repair before I broke up with it...it was the straw that broke me....

Yeah, it's not an electrical problem...it's a "safety feature," but boy is it annoying!

yep.

the gate is doubled locked.

you must unlock ALL THE DOORS (and thus the gate), then go to the gate, and it will release.

the gate will not release until you hit the UNLOCK once or TWICE (depending on how its set 1-click driver's door, 2 click all doors & gate or 1 click-all doors and gate), then you must release the gate (whether or not a door is open doesn't matter).

why you ask?

well imagine sitting at a stop light, and all your doors are locked, and someone runs up to you and hits your tailgate release and jumps in.....

so its actually not a defect, but a function.

so to access the rear liftgate.

UNLOCK all the doors. (one or two pushes either cabin button or remoate)

either hit gate release in the cabin or just go to the rear gate and release it there --shouldn't relock.

if it does, then the upper lock mechanism needs to be replaced.

Most Def the air pressure. Just close gently or leave it open. I have a recomendation, just unlock all doors from inside or out and press the open button on the trunk. This way you can open it no matter what happens with the air pressure.

Happens all the time to mine. Its definitely not a malfunction of the hatch assembly. I agree that it has everything to do with changing the air pressure in the cabin as you shut the door sucking the hatch back down. Thats why it still happens even if you close the door gently. I am to the point that I dont even use the hatch button on the dash. I close the driver door and open the back using the remote switch on the key.
