2002 e53 radio change. Installing screen 2types (which one fits?)

as above. I am getting fed up with the crap pixels so i have taken out my cassette and mid. There is however a plastic insert (cage thing). I want to install a standard screen for the x5 (the one with the screen at one side and buttons on the other side). There seems to be 2types though. One has a recessed line at the top and another doesnt.

will both fit into my car? do they just plug straight in and play? how do you get the cage out of there to allow a double din in? does it have to be cut out?

thanks in advance

Hi, it will not be a plug and play replacement AFAIK. It can be done but you will need a lot of other things including a whole cabling change from the trunk to the dash. If you want to go that route please search the forum. There are several DIYs around.

Good luck

Here we have to wait for the "Gurus". Your idea is really interesting.

Anyone? We know that you know what we need to know :-)

Best, Helmuth
