Anybody had any luck with gas conversion for 8 cylinder e53 in Australia?

Hey guys,

As above, ive been hunting for an e53 for some time, but havnt had any luck finding a diesel sports e53 2004+ for the price im looking at, they do come along but just not often, and im fairly fussy.

Becoming a bit impatient, I enquired about a LPG GAS conversion on the 4.4, 4.6 etc 8 Cylinder e53, im waiting to hear back quotes from a few shops that do conversions. I know they are famous for being a big thirsty car, this is something I couldnt live with having it on petrol, so i thought this may be a better route, as 2004+ e53 in 4.4 etc are pretty common and are selling much lower than the diesels, alot are almost fully optioned, so for my money I can get alot more car.

So I realise there would be a few threads on this already, but im looking for specifically has anyone located in australia, had there 8 X5 converted over or looked to do it....

Any thoughts, pros-cons, info... anything would be a help.

Cheers.

There is a NEW GAS that HSV are using on their vehicle, suppose to be really good and give you the same power as our 98Ron.
Don't bother with the crappy LPG.

Why do you say that? Can you give me some more info.

Ive spoken with a fair few different installers, who are obviously biased as they want the business, but ive experienced lpg on 2 cars in the past, and read alot of good things about the different types of injection gas available....

Just never joined the dots to an x5 before...

anyone else.

Are you referring to the LPI models that HSV has brought out? If so, that stands for LPI, or liquid propane injection. It is still LPG; the LPI refers to the injection of it, not a different gas.

The LPI system is from Otbital, who offer kits for conversions. No kit is listed for the X5 on their site.

Thanks for clarifying jcl,

Anyone with info anywhere in the world feel free to chime in,

So far ive read about a few different types, luquid gas injection and vapour gas injection.

One of the larger local suppliers of lpg, that purely does lpg has told me that vapour gas would be better suited to the x5, tunability etc.

Ooops yes ...

Link here ...AFI Liquajet Force start on LPG - YouTube

The guy who's behind this computer/switching stuffs for this system is a friend of my mate, he also created Wofl3D then he sold it to a company.

I met him once while he was tuning my mate's 1000HP R34GTR ( i used as my wedding car, it was a rainy day running on all 4 semi slick ), i was meant to call him up to get more details but i totally forgot about it until today when i saw your post.

It's confirmed that he also works on Euro cars. When i have the time, i'll speak to him to find out more.

Are AFI still in receivership? The OP might want to look at a system from a company that is more likely to still be around when he needs parts or service.
