Used NY lemon law, transmission clunk+steering wheel vibrations

Bought a 2006 e53 and it seems like the steering wheel shakes a bit (more than the normal vibrations) under braking at highway speeds. Also when putting the car in second gear sometimes you can hear a anywhere from a thump or thud not when I release the clutch but when I actually place the car into second fully. It is a 6 speed manual transmission. Sometimes when the gearbox is happy it feels smooth shifting into second gear. All other gears feel normal.

Not sure if these kinds of things are normal or I should look into the lemon law.

That is far from "lemon law" issues. The steering wheel shake is most likely lower thrust arm bushings and the notch in the gearbox could be remedied with a fluid change.

I don't think its a lemon law out there for a used cars, certainly its fraud involve with used car transactions. You mentioned it shakes under braking condition, that might cause by front brake rotors. if it does not shake while you re not braking, then you need to resurface the front rotors.

New York does have a lemon law but it is only for two years from delivery date. You don't have a lemon, you have a used car. Both those issues should have shown up in your pre-purchase inspection. If you don't have a warranty get the front brakes and suspension checked.

I agree, front brakes and suspension.

Get the oil level checked in the trans.

Z/R, get the manual trans fluid changed, DIY or Indie. Hope it isn't a synchro from hammering 1st-2nd gear changes by previous owner.

Wheel shudder under braking: pages of threads on the effect, but I have never read a step by step 'parts' R&R that went from A to ..., with the 'last step' eliminating the condition. The obvious look ats posted above. I would start with a quality wheel re balance, and the shop carefully inspecting front wheels for run-out. Then, maybe rotors, then front suspension with the usual suspect of thrust arm bushings. Even then, the shudder effect may 'hide' for awhile or be absent, or come back.

The pass airbag off light came on a little bit and then went off, did this a few times before shutting off again. Has not done it since, this was a couple of days ago.

I think this might be an issue I can only pursue at the dealership, I have researched a bit and apparently it could be a recall. Ill just get an inspection there.

+1. PPI, full service history and verification of # of owners. If a 6 yr old vehicle is being sold by its 3rd owner with no service history, RUN!
