I like where your going with this...

super interesting topic... I have an 03 E53 4.6is that I took to Dinan and we did the full-tilt boogie S3 package(intake, injectors, software, exhaust & Vortec V3 supercharger). Also many addt'l mod's: cut charger pulley wheel, replaced motor driven fan with electric, Brebmo BBK, M3 steering wheel w/Mr. Paddle shift kit, etc. I have squeezed every once of HP, torque and performance out of this platform and I have often considered intercooling the charger and/or a water meth system as the logical next step...

I have just under 200k on the car and I'm replacing the torque converter and transmission this week. This car is a daily driver and I love beating up on the unsuspecting soles that think it's an AWD grocery getter. That being said X5 platform does have it's limitations. Weight, AWD and tranny/torque converter...

I have really enjoyed the R&D that Dinan has done on the X5 platform (Steve Dinan had an 03' X5 4.6is that was the first test-bed for S3 package). That being said I took my X back to them after the S3 mods and asked for them to cut the pully. They did, but also said that this level of boost(9.25lbs) will probably be an issue with transmission/torque converter. As Steve predicted, Immediately after we put the smaller SC pulley wheel on and completed the fuel/air mapping we started to see codes for torque converter lock up and tansmission failsafe issues...

A couple of guys at Dinan shared with me that BMW dealership owner from FL had an 03 X5 4.6is shipped to Dinan several years ago and reqeusted Steve put a "stroker motor" in it which he did begrudgingly... He also told the owner of his concerns regarding the transmission. After the installation and minor testing they hooked the moded X5 up to a mustang AWD dyno and on the first pull it completely destroyed the transmission!

I hope this info helps... PLEASE keep us posted, I'm intersted to hear about he WM system install (please post pic's) and what you think of the end result...

BF
