Can anyone reason with this?

Hey guys,

Curiosity has gotten to me - in the upper compartment of the centre console (next to the phone cradle) I have a thing which is rounded and spring loaded - what is this for? Does anyone have any clues as to why it is designed like this?

I would guess that it's for a built in phone's cable or something like that.

i have an antenna screwed in there.. there is a little grommet covering a hole with a thread, and antenna goes there... i will take a pic next time i am in the car. you can pull the grommet with a thin, sharp knife - don't cut the car or yourself!!!

If you have a pic that would be great! - is that for the cradle? - I was under the impression the antenna was built into the car and not seperate.. is it a BMW antenna?

I don't know what the function of this particular antenna...

And I think I saw someone on this board modified the phone holder for the cradle to take an iphone... i might be wrong, though...

I did not forget about the pic, will do it later today

Did anyone manage to get a pic of it with the antenna installed?

Anyone else know what the purpose of this antenna is?

Wow - thats not what i was expecting - thats unusual - you don't have the phone cradle either (which i thought it may be linked too)

Would be keen to know what I'm missing out on :P

p.s. thanks for the pic mate
