Is it possible for me to connect my Nextel i830 phone to the cell phone hook-up?

If you mean the OEM connection for the old CPT8000/9000 BMW phones, then no. If you want to use a cell phone hands free in the X, it's best to go Bluetooth, and get a different phone

Some have said the i870 will pair but the phone book will not. Here's BMW list of phones that do work. http://www.bmwtransact.com/bluetooth...ble_Phones.htm

If the phone does pair, can calls still be used? I have the i870 and want to have bluetooth on my X5 and just making sure it will work if I retro it.

Yes, if it pairs then calls can be made and received. The only thing non-functional is the automatic transfer of the phonebook from the phone to the vehicle.
